Morris named Miss Show-Me Basketball

Sonya Morris followed in the footsteps of many other top players at Incarnate Word Academy, annually one of the top girls programs in the nation as she moved through high school.  She helped guide her program to MSHSAA state championships.  She earned a Division I scholarship, choosing to attend DePaul in the fall, and now she has become the fourth member from her school to earn the title Miss Show-Me Basketball, given to the top player in the state. Morris joins previous winners, Napheesa Collier, Taylor Manuel, and April McKinney.

Morris has played a key role on four consecutive trips to the Show-Me Showdown (Missouri's version of the Final Four) and has helped the Red Knights to three State Championships.

Incarnate Word Academy has played a national schedule during her tenure and Morris and her teammates have accumulated an impressive record of 109-17 during that time.  Her leadership is key, however this season Morris averaged 13.7 points to lead the balanced Red Knights, shot 83.3 percent from the free throw line, adding 2.4 assists 2.2 steals per game.

"What separates Sonya from the average player is the time she puts in outside of the team practice", commented Incarnate Word head coach Dan Rolfes.  "There were many nights she stays after practice to take additional shots and improve her game.  Sonya is a natural leader who is ultra competitive.  She always seemed to shine in the biggest games."

A 1,000 point career scorer and Morris has been named All-State two times, First team All-Conference three times, conference Player of the Year two times, has been named to numerous all-tournament teams and most recently was named Post Dispatch St. Louis Metro Player of the Year.
